I Lost My Cayman Schooner

Somewhere out there, pieces of Cayman’s maritime history are still sitting in old photo albums, family stories, letters, boatyard memories, registry records, and forgotten drawers.

This project is part of an ongoing effort to identify and document Cayman-built schooners, ketches, turtling vessels, and the people connected to them.

If you found this page through one of the “I Lost My Cayman Schooner” hats or cards, thank you for following the trail.

I am looking for information related to:

  • Old photographs of Cayman-built vessels
  • Names of builders, captains, crew, owners, or boatyards
  • Family stories connected to schooners or turtling vessels
  • Ship plans, registries, letters, newspaper clippings, or logbooks
  • Any lead, rumour, or half-remembered detail that might point toward a vessel’s history

Please use the form below to share any information, photographs, scans, documents, family stories, or leads connected to Cayman-built schooners and vessels.

If your lead relates to a specific vessel, person, family, location, or date, please include as much detail as you can.

Even a small clue may help connect a larger story

This research is part of a broader effort to preserve and share Cayman’s maritime history before more of it disappears into the glorious human filing system known as “I think Auntie had that somewhere.”

Thank you for your response. ✨

Thank you. Your schooner lead has been received. I’ll review the information and follow up if more details would help connect the story.
